You Are What You Think! This is a great book that transcends time, though originally published in 1903, to gives us a friendly reminder that we are in control of the outcome of our lives。 "The mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance"; how we choose to think about ourselves is largely reflected in the way we live, carry ourselves, and internal disposition。 These thoughts about ourselves are accompanied by actions that, in turn, create You Are What You Think! This is a great book that transcends time, though originally published in 1903, to gives us a friendly reminder that we are in control of the outcome of our lives。 "The mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance"; how we choose to think about ourselves is largely reflected in the way we live, carry ourselves, and internal disposition。 These thoughts about ourselves are accompanied by actions that, in turn, create our external experiences。 If you want better for your life, it begins with your mind。 This book is for those seeking to better themselves personally and equip themselves in their thought-life。 My complete review will be published on the blog www。scottroberts。org 。。。more

I have mixed feelings about this book。 Along with Allen, I'm a big proponent of the power of mind。 However, I disagree with the his idea that we are the sole authors of our circumstances and attract what we deserve。 When, where, to whom you are born, which education you are granted, the books/rich influences you access (or don't), and many social intricacies have their impact。 And terrible things do happen to wonderful people。 Besides this, there are positive messages to take away from this shor I have mixed feelings about this book。 Along with Allen, I'm a big proponent of the power of mind。 However, I disagree with the his idea that we are the sole authors of our circumstances and attract what we deserve。 When, where, to whom you are born, which education you are granted, the books/rich influences you access (or don't), and many social intricacies have their impact。 And terrible things do happen to wonderful people。 Besides this, there are positive messages to take away from this short read。 。。。more

Take the example of a person who always fails at work and in relationships and also has pessimistic thoughts。 It is not a coincidence that all these troubles co-exist。 Pessimistic thoughts and behaviors attract other problems in your lives。 So you can easily understand that attitude and action are interconnected。 For example, researchers can easily fall into despair because they find their actions insignificant at first。 Attitude problems grow like a snowball and lead to devastating consequences。 Still, these problems can be solved very simply。 Idea 2: People shape the world as much as it shapes them。 Your thoughts and actions are connected because they’re continually affecting each other。 External factors can have a strong influence on your life, but you also play an important role in determining the course of your own life。 It’s not as simple as saying that external factors control everything about your life。 You have some power to shape it yourself, too。 Actually, your thoughts and actions have a greater influence on the world than the world does on you。 Your thoughts and attitudes are what lead you into situations in your life that could be considered good or bad luck。 Therefore, it’s not fair to describe a person by just looking at her environment or predict her future based solely on how she is。 There are many admirable people who have ended up in bad situation for reasons beyond their control while some greedy people live happily off of other people’s misery。 Idea 3: Our thoughts can have a negative impact on our health。 When we think about our thoughts, it’s easy to overlook the connection between health and thought。 We usually focus on affirmations, goals, priorities and other things when thinking about positive thinking。 The mind and body are connected。 What you think can impact your heart rate, sleep patterns, chronic pains like migraines and wrinkles on the skin。 There is a saying that goes, “Be careful what you wish for。” This book takes it one step further and says to be careful about the thoughts you think because they can make you age faster。 However, if we have positive thoughts and dwell on them often enough, we can stay young longer。 Imagine your mind is a garden。 Everything that doesn’t help it grow has to go。 You will be thankful for their removal in the years to come。 This book is a Think and Act motivational book which is a must read for all。 。。。more

I vaguely remember since my mid-teens, and definitely late teens, I have time and again flirted with the idea that your thoughts have power to shape your life。 Maybe cause very early in life I was introduced to Anapana form of meditation or maybe cause in my teens I read The Alchemist。 This idea that your thoughts govern your life, which is at crux of these meditation and books, have since in someway or other shaped a good part of my life。 So when I came across this book ‘As a Man Thinketh’, a m I vaguely remember since my mid-teens, and definitely late teens, I have time and again flirted with the idea that your thoughts have power to shape your life。 Maybe cause very early in life I was introduced to Anapana form of meditation or maybe cause in my teens I read The Alchemist。 This idea that your thoughts govern your life, which is at crux of these meditation and books, have since in someway or other shaped a good part of my life。 So when I came across this book ‘As a Man Thinketh’, a magnum opus in itself, I had a broad idea what it held inside。 But even then this short book was worth the read。 This nearly 120 years old book reiterates thousand years old principle that your thoughts have power to shape your reality。 Written in Victorian English, as title suggests, it’s full of metaphors of nature (as was the trend then) which helps drive the point clearly。 Divided into six headings, James Allen poetically reinforces the the power of right thoughts, its impact on your circumstances and attaining serenity。 If you enjoy dabbling in philosophy, I put forward to you that As a Man Thinketh can be considered built on tenets of Gautam Buddha as propounded in Dhammapada (Chapter 1, Verse 1 itself), more than 2200 years ago。 So this timeless law of nature, which has been reinvigorated in last few decades in popular books and movies like The Secret, The Alchemist, Matrix 。。。 , might hold the key to equanimity in our distracting era of notifications and short attention span。Do I think one book written more than 100 years ago of about 100 pages will change our mindset and life? Well, no。 But I do think this smooth flowing book can definitely be a stepping stone in that direction。 PS: The soft copy of this book is readily available for free on internet。 Check The Project Gutenberg at www。gutenberg。org, they host plethora of more such books for free whose copyright term have expired。 。。。more

I LIKED SOME POINTS IN THIS BOOK LIKE"A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it""They do not know the darkness and the heartaches; they only see the light and joy, and call it 'luck'"。" How many people we know sour their lives, who ruin all that is sweet and beautiful by explosive tempers, who destroy their poise of character, and make bad blood!
